Few communities our size offer two institutions of higher education right in our own backyard. St. Andrews University, a private liberal arts college actually began in 1896 as Flora McDonald College, merging with nearby Presbyterian Junior College to form the present institution in 1961. The Scottish Heritage Center and St. Andrews Pipe Band attest to the college’s lineage. St. Andrews is also known for its renowned equestrian program and emerging online business masters program.
Richmond Community College is part of the renown North Carolina community College network. RCC’s main campus is located in Rockingham but maintains a growing branch campus in downtown Laurinburg.
The community also maintains close ties with UNC=Pembroke located in a neighboring county.
