After a three-year hiatus due to Covid, the Kuumba Festival is returning to Laurinburg on the weekend of September 23 and 24. The 2022 Kuumba Festival is a 2-day celebration of African American culture and heritage articulated through art, music, dance, food, and community. The Kuumba Festival serves to expose and educate all people to the individual talents and contributions of the African American culture. The event kicks-off on Friday night and includes an all-white African themed dinner party, preceded by a one hour tour of historical African American sites within our community.
The Kuumba Festival on Saturday will include a full day on Main Street in Downtown Laurinburg that will feature musical performances, art, literature, poets, cultural cuisine, dancers, drummers, marching bands, community choir, a pageant, speakers, vendors, special awards, and recognitions of beloved ancestors who helped shape our community.
